National Parks Traveler's Annual Fundraising Drive Kicks Off

On Saturday, November 1, we’re kicking off our biggest fundraiser of the year: NewsMatch, a nationwide campaign to support nonprofit journalism. There’s never been a more critical time to protect independent newsrooms like ours — newsrooms that provide an essential public service.

The National Parks Traveler is unlike any other news organization in the country in that we focus our coverage entirely on national parks and the National Park Service. Without the support of readers and listeners, we couldn't accomplish that mission and there'd be a vast chasm when it comes to public information involving the parks and the Park Service.

The Traveler is a central repository for news and information surrounding the parks. Many readers come for the "hard news" that crops up across the park system, but the Traveler offers so much more than that, whether you want to know what work isn't being done during the government shutdown, how wolves in and around Voyageurs National Park are faring, how parks are preparing for the country's 250th birthday, how to make the most of one day in a park, photography tips for snagging that perfect shot at Mount Rainier National Park or Carlsbad Caverns National Park, or what threats the parks are facing.

As you can see above, we've set a $75,000 minimum goal for this year's campaign. That money will enable us to put more freelance reporters out in the park system, add in-house editorial help, and continue to upgrade the website to better present our coverage to you.

From now until December 31, we have an opportunity to boost the impact of donations to the National Parks Traveler, which will help power our newsroom into 2026. Here’s how it works:

NewsMatch will match your new monthly donation 12 times, or double your one-time gift, all up to $1,000. That means that, through NewsMatch, we can earn up to $15,000 in addition to your donations.

If you've supported our work previously, you already know the value of our work. Thank you. If you’re able to pitch in a little extra in the spirit of NewsMatch in an effort to bolster our coverage of the parks, we’d be so grateful.

If you’ve been thinking about becoming a donor to the Traveler, this is the best time to do it. Your support will get our NewsMatch campaign off to a solid start and help keep us going strong.

Will you make a gift today and double your impact?

Yes, I’ll support the Traveler with a donation.

Thank you for believing in us, and for your patience with extra messages during this critical moment.
