Mission

The National Parks Traveler is an unbiased, independent journalistic outlet that strives to ensure that all those interested in the national parks have access to the information they need to make informed decisions as stewards, users, and even critics of the National Park Service. The Traveler works to introduce new and diverse audiences to these public lands, serves as a watchdog over National Park Service and Congressional actions that apply to the National Park System, and provides coverage that ensures the National Park System is maintained under the original qualities and aspirations that led to each unit being added to the system. The Traveler's journalists work to inform the public of environmental, scientific, and newsworthy developments surrounding, involving, and affecting these areas and their governing bodies.

The Traveler is not a static aggregation site built around park statistics and trail descriptions, and is not strictly a travelogue. Rather, it offers readers a unique multimedia blend of news, feature content, debate, and discussion all tied to national parks and protected areas.
