A Colorado man on a private river trip through Grand Canyon National Park died after he fell into the river at the top of a rapid and could not be revived once he was pulled out.

James Crocker, 63, of Lakewood, Colorado, fell into the river at the top of Hance Rapid at river mile 77 around 10 a.m. Monday, a park release said.

Park authorities were contacted about the incident via a personal locator beacon activation. The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center then received a report that CPR was in progress. Park rangers flown to the location via the park helicopter continued resuscitation efforts, but could not revive Crocker, the release said.

Crocker was on day six of a multi-day private boating trip.
