Lawsuit Challenges FAA License For Spaceport Near Cumberland Island National Seashore
A legal challenge has been mounted with hopes of reversing the Federal Aviation Administration's decision to issue an operating license to a commercial spaceport that would launch rocket ships over Cumberland Island National Seashore off the coast of Georgia.
Under Water And Under Pressure
The National Park Service is facing a water conundrum: some parks have too little, some parks have too much. While an historic drought continues to parch much of the Western United States, a new report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association predicts that sea levels across the United States will rise, on average, 10-12 inches by 2050. In other words, from Maine to Florida to Texas and all the way up to Alaska, there are more than 100 national park units threatened by the slow siege of rising coastlines.

Plastics -- everything from plastic bottles and bags to food containers -- are washing ashore at national seashores, where crews work throughout the year to remove the garbage that is not just unsightly but a threat to marine and terrestrial wildlife.

Rockets soaring across Cumberland Island National Seashore moved a step closer to reality Monday when the Federal Aviation Administration granted a license to Spaceport Camden, though that in itself does not authorize actual launches.
Decision On Spaceport Near Cumberland Island Not Likely Final
An announcement expected Monday on whether a commercial spaceport can be located near Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia likely will just be the latest chapter in the long-running quest by county officials to develop the facility, as Federal Aviation Administration officials already are saying their ruling won't be the final step in the matter.
Cumberland Island's Horses Out Of The Past
The horses of Cumberland Island look rough. They’re small, just ponies really, with dull, scruffy coats and wispy manes and tails. They seem awfully thin, no doubt malnourished with only moss and dune grasses to eat.
