Acadia National Park

To allow for the installation of a new irrigation system, the Wild Gardens of Acadia in Acadia National Park will be closed through June 23.

There's a new visitor hub at Acadia National Park in Maine, where some of the visitor services offered in the past at park headquarters are moving to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center from May 1 through October 31. The NPS will direct visitors seeking park information and entrance passes to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center to avoid the confusion and congestion of park headquarters during the summer and fall.

Taking a page out of Yosemite National Park's crowd-management manual, Acadia National Park officials will put "visitor service assistants" to work this summer to help manage parking at the busiest locations in the park on the coast of Maine.

David Rockefeller, who continued his family's long-running love affair with national parks, died the other day at 101. The last surviving grandchild of oil baron John D. Rockefeller, Mr. Rockefeller had a particular keenness for Acadia National Park, which his father, John D. Rockefeller, Jr., helped established in 1916.
