Good riddance! 'Teflon Dave' should have been retired at least a decade ago. In an agency with any real transparency and accountability, he would still be making license plates:

Wow. This guy is really a piece of work.
Engage in unethical practices. Act dumb about it. Make a bundle. Get exposed, and suffer only a slap on the wrist. Get rewarded with a new job and a $7000 raise.
Our tax dollars (not) at work.
Did Dave Loeffler get to keep his job?
He did until the unit was disbanded. He moved on after that.
Yup. He had a *lousy* reputation up here at Mt. Rainier. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Don't know about Rainier but here at the Canyon Dave was referred to as Super Dave by those in the rafting community and many others.
How about turning your snark on your Presidential candidates and clean up your own nest. That's about where these comments belong.
"How about turning your snark on your Presidential candidates"
Totally irrelevant. We have the right to expect honestly from these appointees, no matter how incompetent the candidates are.
"Dave was referred to as Super Dave by those in the rafting community"
No doubt some did feel that way. It's pretty obvious which ones they would be. I imagine others would feel differently.
Mr. Shattuck, it's pretty obvious you have passed the "purity" test. Maybe you can explain how you've become so pure. I do have to confess that some of your vitriol I have harbored toward the immediate predecessor to Dave Uberaga, Steve Martin. From what I've experienced Dave was by far, more liked and respected than his predecessor. But then, you seem to know which ones would harbor those feelings.
It is about time that the actual responsible people get held accountable instead of scapegoats. Now what about the Director giving his buddy preferential treatment all these years and clearly kicking the can down the road.
What about all the people who lost their jobs under Super Dave?
I wonder how NPS Director Jarvis could tell "Super Dave", with a straight face, that a "Change in leadership" was needed at the Grand Canyon. It was Jarvis who appointed Uberuaga to his current position, after previously giving him a written reprimand for a serious ethical lapse at Mt. Rainier National Park. What made Uberuaga's inaction on the sexual harassment complaints egregious enough for Jarvis to fire him, except that it became such a huge publicity scandal? Jarvis himself needs to be fired. Another meaningless survey isn't going to cut it.
Jarvis is retiring too!
I hope you're right.
wow. I only have five years of working for Super Dave to go on, but this is what I saw: a guy who wanted to do his best for the NPS and park visitors, who listened to his staff and attempted to make good decisions, who rewarded creativity and outside-of-the-box thinking, and who was willing to stand up in front of hostile audiences when needed and hear people out (For example, he spent hours with a sizeable group of irate boaters unable to launch trips during the government shutdown, and went to considerable effort to make it right). He walked into a minefield at Grand Canyon not of his making, and unfortunately he wasn't able to navigate the labyrinth of personnel regs, bureaucracy, personalities, dissenting views, advice etc. well. I didn't get along with him every minute, but I totally respect the work he achieved and his dedication to trying to do the right thing. I hope the next superintendent can truly lay the problems at Grand Canyon to rest, but I suspect he or she will be surprised at how much Dave was managing, and how complex and difficult and intractable the problems at Grand Canyon are. I have been proud to call him Super Dave. (Note: I am a worker bee, not a manager, and I don't owe Dave anything. He earned every bit of my respect, and I am not easily impressed.)
Yep!
Disagree Rasin,
This guy is a real tool, not to be trusted, still not sure how he fooled Jarvis as long as he did, but it's kinda Karmatic how Dave was done in by a sexual harassment complaint, considering it was his doing when the Supt. of Rainier was ask to retire because of sexual improprities, based on Daves supplied info and complaints, for which Dave recieved his promotion to Deputy Supt,. of MORA. "Super Dave", not hardly, and it wasn't the betterment of the park he was trying to achieve, but only to stoke his own ego.
I am just a citizen that wrote emails to end the sexual harassment of employees. I am so happy to hear that changes have been made. I hope the employees continue to speak out when problems are not handled. This is the only way the general public will be able to have any influence. I was glad to hear a report on our local radio news here in Arizona 7-27-16 that other parks wil be checked for similar problems.
