Black-Footed Ferrets, An Endangered Species Since 1967, Still Struggling

One of the most endangered species in the western United States, if not the entire country, is the black-footed ferret. In fact, it was listed as an endangered species in 1967, six years before the Endangered Species Act was passed by Congress. Today, more than 50 years on, this cousin to the weasel continues to struggle, and the U.S. Forest Service appears to be making things worse.

In Thailand, officials want to close their national parks every year for two months or so to give wildlife a break from humans. Would that fly in the United States? Loggerhead Turtle Nesting Has Begun At Cape Hatteras National Seashore

The first sea turtle nest of the season was discovered at Cape Hatteras National Seashore on May 16. Staff took this photo of the female nesting loggerhead using turtle-safe lighting. Red light is used because sea turtles are sensitive to white bright lights. The mother and nest were found north of Ramp 44 on Hatteras Island.
