Editor's Note: This has been updated with the latest information on containment, as well as the cause of the wildfire.
Crews made great progress attacking a wildfire in Saguaro National Park in Arizona, with containment reaching 100 percent on Tuesday, June 16. The fire burned through a total of 145 acres.
The fire, reported Saturday morning, was burning in the park's official wilderness area to the southwest of the Juniper Campground and about three miles east of Tucson.
On Tuesday, park staff reported that Infrared flights on Monday and Tuesday afternoon showed very little heat inside the burn area. The fire will continue to be monitored by IR flights, and resources will be released to assist with other wildland fire response as needed.
Investigators have determined that the fire was caused by the crash of a paramotor, a motorized ultralight aircraft, in Box Canyon. Emergency responders located the pilot, who was transported to the local coroner's office. The incident remains under investigation.
Temporary closures in the park have been lifted, and all Saguaro National Park trails and campgrounds are now open.
