Continued problems with the operation of the wastewater treatment plant at North Cascades National Park in Washington means operations at Stehekin Landing will be limited this summer. The plant was left inoperable following historic flooding in December.

The park says that as a result, North Cascades Lodge at Stehekin will not offer public services this season, including lodging, food service, retail, fuel, laundry, or showers. However, postal service, ferry service, and private shuttle and tour operators will continue to operate.

Temporary solutions for the wastewater plant were evaluated but are not sufficient to support full operations, according to park staff. Staff and contractors are working toward restoring wastewater service at the landing, and if they are able to do so, the Lodge may offer limited services as capacity allows. Availability and timing will depend on system functionality.

The park says that visitors can still enjoy a range of recreational opportunities in Stehekin this summer, despite the Lodge’s limitations. Lakeview and Purple Point Campgrounds will be open with potable water and vault toilets available. Ferry service will continue to provide access, and shuttle services and tours, including trips to Rainbow Falls, will operate.
