Kayaker Drowns At Lake Mead National Recreation Area

A 31-year-old man drowned at Lake Mead National Recreation Area while try to retrieve an inflatable kayak that blew away from him in high winds.

A park release said the incident happened near SCUBA Beach about 7 p.m. Pacific on Wednesday. Park rangers responded and searched the area by boat with snorkel and mask, but the effort was suspended due to severe storms throughout the evening. Search and rescue efforts resumed Thursday morning, and the body was located at 11:01 a.m. PST.

The man, who was not identified, was not wearing a personal flotation device.
