There are times when you're heading to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park when you have more than a little time to notice the little things at the entrance station...such as the elevation sign.
Traffic was inching along slowly, but relatively steady, when we entered the park in late April. The wait to pass through the entrance gave me time to spy this elevation marker, which you can make out just to the right of the "Stop" sign.

Funny thing when your in the entrance line, and anxious to see the sights, and you don't notice informative signs. Yet, this is part of the sights.
I don't doubt that the sign is for elevation at the South Entrance, but... The sign you posted for the "challange" and the one you point out in the above pic, do not appear to be the same signs. Different background, different view around the sign.
Same sign, Chip, just different perspectives. I shot the sign close to the station so was shooting to the right, rather than head on.
