There will be a bit more national park acreage to roam beginning Thursday, when Hovenweep and Natural Bridges national monuments in Utah and Colorado open their roads, trails, and restrooms to the public.

However, visitor centers, bookstores and campgrounds in the monuments are to remain closed for the time being.

Beginning May 14, 2020, Hovenweep and Natural Bridges national monuments will reopen access to:

  • Roads, trails, and restrooms

With public health in mind, the following facilities remain closed at this time:

  • Visitor centers, bookstores, and campgrounds

“We are pleased to begin reopening the monuments to our communities and visitors," said acting Superintendent Marin Karraker. "We are very appreciative of the coordination with San Juan County representatives, the state of Utah, and the staff at Arches and Canyonlands national parks in developing a phased approach to re-opening. We look forward to once again inviting you to discover these lesser known, but no less spectacular, sites in southeastern Utah.”
