Still No Sign Of Missing Hiker In Rocky Mountain National Park

The search for a missing day hiker has led crews to the roof of Rocky Mountain National Park/NPS

Five days of searching more than 20 square miles in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado have failed to turn up sign of a day hiker who disappeared on June 30 after summiting Mount Meeker.

Park officials on Monday had allowed the use of a drone to aid searchers in combing the landscape around the 13,911-foot peak to the southeast of Longs Peak for sign of Brian Perri, 38, of Fort Collins, Colorado, and on Tuesday the video captured by the drone was being analyzed.

Since last Thursday the search area has covered "significant sections of 22.5 square miles," a park release said Tuesday. "The area has been searched by helicopters, ground searchers, dog teams, and UAS reconnaissance, providing a great deal of coverage."

Perri was day hiking and was expected out on Saturday, June 30. Perri made it to the summit of Mount Meeker, as he texted a photograph to a friend from the peak, according to park staff. In the photograph, he was wearing a tan full brim hat, sunglasses, and red backpack. He has minimal equipment and may have a yellow rain jacket and yellow orange puffy jacket. He had no known tent or camping equipment.

The search and investigation is ongoing. Park rangers would like to hear from anyone who has been in the Mount Meeker area since Saturday, June 30. Especially those who noticed abandoned gear or other clues. Please call (970) 586-1204.
