Body Washes Ashore At Olympic National Park

Share

A body washed ashore at Olympic National Park might be that of a Washington man who went missing in a boating accident on August 18, though an exact identification has yet to be made, park officials said Thursday.

Visitors reported the body on Tuesday, and rangers were able to reach the scene on a remote section of the park’s wilderness coastline Wednesday afternoon. However, rough ocean conditions and poor weather have prevented them from transporting the body to the Clallam County coroner. An effort to move the body was expected Friday morning.

The area’s remote and extremely rugged terrain necessitate transport by either helicopter or boat, the park said.

Clifford Dopps, 74, was lost in a boating accident north of La Push. His boat was later found on a remote and rocky section of shoreline in Olympic National Park. A life jacket and other items were found nearby, but Dopps’ body was not found during an intensive two-day search.
