Yosemite National Park has launched a new website to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Yosemite National Park.  The website is designed to provide an innovative way for community members and interested parties to actively participate in the celebrations surrounding the anniversary that will be staged throughout the 2015 calendar year.

'œThe events in the gateway communities were a huge part of the success of the 150th anniversary of the Yosemite Grant,' said Yosemite Superintendent Don Neubacher in a release. 'œWe are looking forward to working closely with our gateway communities again as we celebrate this significant historical milestone.'

The website offers a calendar of all anniversary events, projects, and commemorations that will take place throughout 2015.  Additionally, visitors to the site will be provided opportunities to share their Yosemite stories; read a timeline of Yosemite'™s rich history; learn how to host and/or organize an anniversary event or activity; and apply to use the anniversary logo on retail products.

President Benjamin Harrison signed the legislation that established Yosemite National Park on October 1, 1890, making Yosemite the nation'™s third national park. The establishment of Yosemite National Park preserved more than 1,500 square miles of land, including Tuolumne Meadows, the park'™s high country, the Hetch Hetchy valley, and lands surrounding Yosemite Valley.

On June 30th, 2014, the National Park Service commemorated the 150th anniversary signing of the Yosemite Grant. The 1864 legislation preserved and protected Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, thus paving the way for the conservation of public lands across the country and around the globe.
