If you'll be at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon between now and July 27 and you'd like to learn how to take better photos, here's a great opportunity. You don't even need a camera to participate.
Free digital photo workshops are being offered twice daily through July 27 (except Tuesdays). The photo walks begin at 8:30 a.m and 12:00 noon and last for one to two hours. Participants meet at the Mather Amphitheater, located behind Park Headquarters on the South Rim of the Canyon. The workshops are being sponsored by the NPS, Canon and the American Park Network.
If you'd like to take part, arrive approximately 15–30 minutes before the class begins, and note that space in each session is limited. In addition to keeping the size of the group small enough to make the experience useful, there's another good reason for the limit:
No cameras are necessary. Canon will provide digital single lens reflex bodies and lenses for all participants. Please arrive approximately 15–30 minutes before the class begins. All participants will receive a CD and prints of the images they have taken.
It's hard to beat that deal! Participants are asked to bring water, sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat.
The photo walks are led by a Canon Explorer of Light member. Canon’s Explorer of Light program is comprised of a group of the most celebrated, internationally known photographers ever assembled.
By attending a photo walk, you will not only learn to improve your photo composition skills, but also be inspired by the photo professionals who conduct each photo walk.
If you can't make the walks, here's a related photo op at the park: The programs continue in the evenings with a slide show at 6:00 p.m. each evening except Tuesday through July 27 at the Shrine of the Ages auditorium (parking lot A next to Park Headquarters).
The program will continue in Yellowstone from August 2-9, 2009 (except for Tuesday, 8/4) with daytime sessions at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge. It will then wind up for the summer at Acadia National Park from August 20-27 (except Tuesday, 8/25), with daytime sessions at the Jordon Pond House. Hi Jim,
I wanted to let you know the program is alive and well in the Grand Canyon, but some of the details in your article are a bit out of date. Rob and Ann are not leading the program this year. There are, however, 8 very talented photographers that teach the courses to the small groups. There is a lot of opportunity for one on one interaction with the instructors.
After wrapping up in the Grand Canyon on Jul 27, the program moves to Yellowstone National Park (Aug 2 - 9). Then, the program wraps up for the summer in Acadia National Park (Aug 20 - 27).

Thanks for the update! I apparently snagged info from a press release that is out of date. I'll make some corrections in the story.
Grand canyon is truly captivating.Many people would really want to capture and take pictures so that they will have memories of the visit.Learning how to take pictures properly will help them a lot. I guess it's truly a nice experience!
