Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Fees Show Little Change This Year

An updated fee schedule for visiting Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore this year shows very little change, other than a $30-per-night fee for group camping at a yet-to-be-developed campground at the lakeshore at a $5 per night charge for kayak lockers.

National Park Service Ships Historic Railroad Cars to East Troy Electric Railroad

Railroad buffs are about the most dedicated bunch you can find, flocking to model train shows and to rail yard sidings to glimpse historic engines and rolling stock. Now, thanks to National Park Service efforts, they have a new destination: The East Troy Electric Railroad in Wisconsin where five historic South Shore Railroad Cars have been put back in action.

Popular Junior Ranger Program is Expanding to Add "Let's Move Outside" Activities

The popular Junior Ranger Program, which lets kids earn a patch, badge, certificate or similar award for completing activities in many national parks, is expanding to include Let's Move Outside, which encourages physical activity for youngsters. The program is now underway in 36 parks, with more being added before summer's end.

Fans of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Being Asked to Contribute Ideas to Lakeshore's Future

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore could accurately be described as an "urban" park. Its location on Lake Michigan is rimmed by Indiana towns and cities such as Gary, Hammond, Portage, Valparasio, and Michigan City. And, understandably, the residents of those communities have a vested interest in the lakeshore's future. That's where the National Park and Conservation Association's "National Park, Regional Treasure" program comes into play.
