Congaree National Park Adds Group Campsites, Bans Car Camping

More group campsites have been added to the campgrounds in Congaree National Park in South Carolina. At the same time, the national park has put a halt to car camping in the park.

Update: Judge Rules Against Environmental Upgrades for Bridge Project in Congaree National Park

A federal judge has ruled that the aging Highway 601 bridge over the Congaree River in South Carolina can be replaced without correcting environmentally harmful features of the causeway-like bridge approach built on a floodplain now within Congaree National Park.

Reservations for the free guided canoe trips on Cedar Creek in South Carolina's Congaree National Park can now be booked up to several months in advance, making it much easier for visitors with flexible plans to lock in seats for the popular weekend trips.

South Carolina ETV’s new documentary “Roots in the River: The Story of Congaree National Park” will be aired in association with Ken Burns’ six-part documentary on America's national parks. A sneak preview of clips from both documentaries will be screened for the general public at the Congaree National Park visitor center on Sunday, September 20.
