Study Claims Permit System Doesn't Make Half Dome Hike Safer

One of the most terrifying, and dangerous, day hikes in the National Park System is the route you take to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. So dangerous is it that some years ago the park implemented a permit system to limit day hikers. Now a study claims that system doesn't make the hike any safer.

There Is No Timeline For Reopening Most Of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park

With no end in sight to the volcanism within Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, there's no firm date for when most of the park will reopen. Earthquakes have cracked and broken roadways in the park, and damaged the infrastructure of the Jaggar Museum.

Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park's Chain of Craters-Kalapana Road Turning Into Evacuation Route

Work to reopen a road in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park that has been closed by lava flows for 41 of the 53 years it has existed is under way to create an evacuation route through the park should Highway 130 be overrun by lava from the ongoing Kīlauea Volcano eruption.
