Camping in Acadia National Park

If you're into tenting or want to park your RV/trailer directly beneath the stars, there are two campgrounds on Mount Desert Island (Seawall and Blackwoods), one campground on the Schoodic Peninsula (Schoodic Woods), and a primitive campground on Isle au Haut (Duck Harbor).

Below is a quick rundown of each campground. For more detailed information, click on the campground name. Each link to recreation.gov is specific to that campground. If you notice informational discrepancies between the park's webpage for a campground and recreation.gov's page, it's best to stick with recreation.gov since that is where you'll make your campsite reservation. For any site you are interested in, click on the View Details link to learn more about that particular campsite as well as maximum RV length for that site.

Seawall Campground is open May 20, 2026 - October 11, 2026, and offers 202 sites (43 tent-only; 59 RV-only). Nine sites are ADA-accessible. Walk-in tent sites are $22; drive-up tent, camper, and motor-home sites are $30; group tent sites are $60. All sites are in the woods, and all within 10 minutes of the Atlantic Ocean. All Seawall campsites are by reservation only with recreation.gov. Maximum RV/vehicle-trailer length is 35 feet. Extension pull-outs must fit with the site pads provided. There are no hookups. Drinking water, flush toilets, trash collection, and a dump station are all available seasonally. Evening campfire programs are offered in summer, and the campground is on the Island Explorer (see Getting Around section) route.

Blackwoods Campground is open May 1, 2026 - October 18, 2026, and offers 281 sites (221 tent-only; 60 RV-only). Tent, camper, and RV sites are $30 nightly and group sites (tent-only) are $60. There are 11 ADA-accessible sites. All Blackwoods campsites are by reservation only with recreation.gov. Maximum RV/vehicle-trailer length is 35 feet, but some sites will only accommodate a length of 20 feet. No generators are allowed in Loop B. There are no hookups. Drinking water, flush toilets, and a dump station are available seasonally. Showers for a fee are nearby. The campground is served by the Island Explorer, and the ocean is a ten-minute walk away. There are evening campfire programs during the summer.

An oft-overlooked part of Acadia is Isle au Haut, a small island southeast of Mount Desert Island. Head there and you'll find the Duck Harbor Campground with its five rustic lean-to sites. Remote and inaccessible to automobiles, you'll need to land a reservation for these sites ($20, available mid-May through early October) through recreation.gov. There is no available drinking water, so plan ahead to treat the water or bring enough potable water for the duration of your stay. Season dates for 2026 have not yet been identified by campground management.

The newest campground in Acadia is located on the Schoodic Peninsula, a not-quite 2,300-acre slice of the national park that can be found on the mainland just northeast of Mount Desert Island. Schoodic Woods Campground is open May 20, 2026 - October 11, 2026, and offers 89 campsites (13 tent-only; 41 RV-only). Nightly fees range from $22 walk-in tent, $30 tent-only electric, $36 RV electric only, $40 RV electric & water hookup, $60 group tent sites. All sites are located 1.5 miles (2.5 km) southeast of Winter Harbor and about 60-70 minutes from Bar Harbor and the main section of the park. All sites are reservable through recreation.gov. Maximum RV/vehicle-trailer length is 70 feet (one site will fit this maximum length). Drinking water, flush and vault toilets, trash collection, internet connectivity, and a dump station are all available seasonally. The campground is served by the Island Explorer, there are restrooms with running water, and ranger-led programs onsite.

If you manage to bring your horse to the park with you, Wildwood Stables offers a horse camp with 33 horse stalls for rent and nine equestrian campsites. The campsites have full RV hookups with water, power and sewer and are available only to people renting horse stalls. Stalls are $40 per night. Campsites $60 (+9% ME State lodging tax) per night.
