Updated: Congress Authorizes Millions Of Dollars To Build Bridge Across St. Croix National Scenic Riverway

Rebuffed time and again by the National Park Service, U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann and U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota have succeeded in getting Congress to earmark $700 million to build a bridge across the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway.

Keep your eyes on the House Natural Resources Committee this week, as the committee is expected to take action on measures that could set a precedent for "wild and scenic" rivers, force stocking of non-native fish in North Cascades National Park, and realign wilderness boundaries to allow for a road to be moved out of a flood-prone area in North Cascades.

To Build, Or Not To Build, A New Bridge Over St. Croix National Scenic Riverway

U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann, while strongly criticizing President Barack Obama for presiding over a $1.65 trillion deficit, is expected to introduce legislation any day now that could add to that deficit while also pushing through an exemption to the Wild & Scenic River Act for a four-lane bridge through a national scenic riverway, according to those close to the issue.

Photography Program Hopes to Connect Teens With Outdoors At St. Croix National Scenic Riverway

For some reason, it seems that you become more connected with landscapes in the National Park System if you frame them through through a camera's viewfinder. And the folks at St. Croix National Scenic Riverway hope that will be the result when they bring at-risk teens to the riverway to photograph it.
