Park Ranger Who "Tased" Native American Visitor Cleared Of Wrongdoing

An internal investigation into a ranger who tased a visitor at Petroglyph National Monument found that he acted appropriately. The individual who was tased, who identified himself as a Native American, was cited for going off trail, providing false information, and failing to obey the ranger.

Running The Volcanoes At Petroglyph National Monument

The distinctive silhouettes of the “Three Sisters” are an Albuquerque landmark, low peaks on the high West Mesa. Part of Petroglyph National Monument, this free day use area is jointly managed by National Park Service and the city. Instead of turning left out of the visitor center parking lot to go find ancient rock carvings, I turn right in search of volcanoes.

According to the NPS, "Petroglyph National Monument protects one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America, featuring designs and symbols carved onto volcanic rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago. These images are a valuable record of cultural expression and hold profound spiritual significance for contemporary Native Americans and for the descendants of the early Spanish settlers."
