Public Invited To Monitor Teton Range Glaciers

Grand Teton National Park staff will host a citizen science glacier survey Labor Day weekend, September 1 and 2. The effort is the first of its kind in the park and will give citizen volunteers the opportunity to participate in glacier monitoring efforts in the Teton Range.

Grand Teton National Park Researchers Study String, Leigh Lake Visitors

Grand Teton National Park managers are learning from research and field staff observations to improve visitor use management and provide high quality visitor experiences in the popular String and Leigh lakes area. Social scientists from Oregon State, Penn State, and Utah State universities are nearing completion of a two-year study to better understand visitor use, experience, and behaviors in this scenic area as well as the related resource impacts.

Essay | Plan, Think, And Don’t Be Stupid In A National Park

Photographer Rebecca Latson recently completed a 3-week road trip and move from southeast Texas up to central Washington State. During that time, she visited five national parks. In those parks, she saw some pretty stupid stuff such as litter, people driving faster than the posted speed limit, and poor choices in hiking footwear, to name a few things. Rebecca wrote an article of her observations, which are a good reminder for us all to do some planning and be a little more thoughtful of how we treat our national parks as guests.

After being closed to the public for a month out of concern that a rock buttress up mountain might be precarious, officials at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming have reopened the Hidden Falls viewing area and Lower Inspiration Point on the west shore of Jenny Lake to the public.

Grand Teton Rangers Spend Night In The Mountains To Rescue Teens

The U.S. Postal Service has nothing on National Park Service rangers when it comes to going out into the "gloom of night" when help is needed. A teen who was banged up by a 30-foot-or-so fall while climbing with a buddy in Grand Teton National Park owes a world of thanks to the park's rangers for hiking deep into the night, and high into the park, to rescue them.
