Virginia’s Booker T. Washington National Monument will be offering its popular “Harvest Time” event on September 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The reenactment of 1864 life on the plantation is expected to include basket making, blacksmithing, butter churning, chair caning, rag doll making, open hearth cooking, sheep shearing, spinning, tatting, and tobacco twisting.

It is late August, and most families will soon be returning home, just in time to send their children back to school, but not before one last trip to see the wondrous sights in one of our nation’s major national parks.

One could argue that there is no bad time to visit Acadia National Park—and one would likely receive little resistance from those who have experienced the magical park. However, like a proud peacock showing off its striking plumage, autumn’s arrival to Maine’s coastal gem ushers in a symphony of fleeting shades of red, yellow, gold, and even purple as maple, beech, birch, oak, white ash and other deciduous trees don their brilliant fall leaves beginning in early October.

A tribute to Shoshonean history and culture will take place at the Colter Bay Visitor Center in Grand Teton National Park on Wednesday and Thursday.
