You can begin avoiding the parking lot jam on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park this Saturday by parking at Tusayan and riding the free shuttle bus to the South Rim.

The premium placed on saving the Enchanted Valley Chalet in the backcountry of Olympic National Park has gained more stature with the decision by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation to list the building on its most endangered list for 2014.

Designated wilderness areas exist in national parks from coast to coast, but many of them can be described as "islands of wildness surrounded by development." Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is a rare exception, "a wild place within the context of equally wild and sometimes wilder surroundings," and the park has prepared a document that "clearly defines the current status of and threats to the park's wilderness character.

Within days of Yosemite National Park officials warning visitors it was illegal to fly drones in the park, volunteers at Zion National Park in Utah say they saw a drone harassing wildlife in their park.
