A young woman who went for a day hike and wound up spending a week in the backcountry of Big Bend National Park in Texas was found alive on Friday.
Christy Perry, 25, picked up a rental car in Midland, Texas, and arrived in Big Bend on November 9, according to a park release. She did not show up for her camping reservation that evening at the Chisos Basin Campground. Perry's vehicle was located at the trailhead for the Lost Mine Trail.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, National Park Service search and rescue teams located Perry awake and talking approximately a quarter-mile below the summit of the Lost Mine Trail. The trail climbs steeply through the woodlands of the Chisos Mountains and offers magnificent views of the rugged mountains and deserts of Big Bend and Mexico.
No further details of the woman's condition, or what she had been doing for the past week, were provided.
