A trail to an iconic waterfall at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia will be rehabilitated in the coming years thanks to funding provided by a number of groups and agencies.
The trail down to Dark Hollow Falls is less than a mile-and-a-half in length, but each year more than 375,000 visitors take the time to admire the waterfall, according to the Shenandoah National Park Trust.
The trust was able to receive full funding for the project with donations from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Arconic Foundation, and the 2025 AllTrails Stewards Fund.
Approximately $126,000 has been budgeted for the project.
The project will feature a short trail reroute, add grading improvements to promote safer navigation, and optimize its resilience against trail erosion from severe weather, a release from the trust said. Work is set to begin next year and will not only improve visitor safety, accessibility, and natural resource conservation efforts, but will also serve as a model for future trail innovation.
