HONOLULU – Advanced reservations are coming back to the USS Arizona Memorial in Hawaii.
The advanced reservation system, which allowed visitors to book tickets up to 56 days ahead of arrival, was suspended when construction work started in July. Park officials at the time said the move was to prevent last-minute cancellations due to intermittent lack of boat access. Closures starting Sept. 3 also impacted walk-up tours and 24-hour reservations.
"This is a critical project that will temporarily impact boat operations. and with winter break and the holiday travel season approaching, we want to ensure visitors have the opportunity to get their tickets early,” said Tom Leatherman, superintendent of Pearl Harbor National Memorial.
The work involves removing two World War II era salvage platforms attached to the USS Arizona and is expected to be complete by Nov. 1. Visitors can once again make advanced reservations for dates after that starting Sept. 8 via Recreation.gov.
As soon as boat operations can be performed safely, same-day, walk-in, first-come, first-served tours will also resume. It is also expected that day-before reservations will become available sometime prior to Nov. 1.
Other reservation opportunities at Pearl Harbor National Memorial, such as the Ford Island Bus Tour, remain available through and are not impacted by this project. Entry to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center grounds, museums, and park film remains free and does not require reservations. Visitors can also enjoy experiences such as the Pacific Historic Parks Audio Tour, VR Center, the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, and the Battleship Missouri Memorial for a fee.
Visitors should check the park website for the latest updates.
