The annual holiday festival at Mesa Verde National Park in southwestern Colorado will not be held this year/NPS file

Mesa Verde National Park's annual Holiday Open House and Luminaria event will not be presented this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After examining several alternatives, park staff determined there is not a feasible scenario that would discourage large groups from gathering at any particular location.

“We regret having to cancel the Open House this year,” said Mesa Verde Superintendent Cliff Spencer, “but feel doing so is in the best interests of the health of park visitors and our employees. This event brings people together in celebration of the season, but bringing people together from around the region is not advised, considering the high potential for spread. We look forward to resuming the Open House when conditions improve.”
