The 37th annual Sand Sculpture Contest is coming to Point Reyes National Seashore on August 26/NPS

The 37th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest is coming to Point Reyes National Seashore in California this coming Sunday.

Sand castle builders of ages are invited to this free community event located at Drakes Beach.

Categories include: Children (14 years of age and under), Families, Adult Individuals, and Adult Groups.

Three prizes will be awarded in each of those categories, along with prizes for the sculpture with the most recycled plastic included. Only materials found on Drakes Beach may be incorporated into the structure. You may not pick plants or pull rocks or gravel from the cliffs. Build above the high tide line and away from the cliffs for your safety.

Please be aware that parking will be extremely limited during the contest and Drakes Beach will be heavily impacted with contest participants.

The Point Reyes National Seashore Association will have the Drakes Beach Bookstore open on that day and will have pre-packaged food and drink for sale. This event is family based, but please remember that no dogs are allowed on this designated swimming beach (no lifeguard on duty). Judges will make the call on creativity and originality. Bring a picnic and spend the day!

Schedule:

* 9 a.m. - Registration begins at the Ken Patrick Visitor Center, Drakes Beach
* 12 noon - Judging begins
* 3:30 p.m. - Prizes awarded
