Death Valley National Park Hammered By Storm, Officials Suggest You Don't Visit

Share

A powerful thunderstorm that passed over Death Valley National Park in California knocked out power and left debris strewn across roads, leading park officials to suggest visitors stay away for the time being.

The storm hit the park Friday night, and officials didn't expect full power to be restored until Sunday evening.

Power will be out in Death Valley possibly until evening of Sunday, July 3. Furnace Creek Resort and Stovepipe Wells are closed tonight (July 2). CA-190 is open, but many other roads are closed. If you're thinking of visiting the park this weekend, please reconsider," a post on the park's Facebook page read.

Last October a series of potent thunderstorms did widespread damage across the 3.3-million-acre park. Damage to utilities and roads leading to Scotty's Castle in Grapevine Canyon in the northeastern corner of the park was expected to take several years to fully repair.
