Santa Monica Mountains NRA To Host Recreation Festival

Share

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in California will host its second annual Recreation Festival later this month, and plans to fill the day with plenty of family activities in the outdoors.

The Rec Fest, as it's known, is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. This free, family-friendly event will take place at Paramount Ranch in Agoura and will feature several hands-on opportunities to introduce families to the outdoors.

"A lifelong love for the outdoors usually starts with one adventure," said David Szymanski, the NRA's superintendent. "This is a chance to experience that adventure in a safe place with all the equipment provided.”

Equipment will be on hand so that attendees can try their hand at rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing and art activities. Children and their families can even participate in a one-mile fun run that begins at noon.

Visitors are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Food vendors will be available on site. More information is available at this site

The event is co-sponsored by the Santa Monica Mountains Fund and is made possible by a generous grant from the National Park Foundation's Active Trails program.
