Body Spotted In Grand Canyon National Park

Share

A body presumed to be that of a missing Arizona man was spotted Wednesday several hundred feet below the South Rim at Grand Canyon National Park, but rangers weren't going to be able to reach it before Thursday.

Marc Buckhout, 36, of Glendale, Arizona, was reported missing by his family last Saturday evening. He had gone for a walk along the South Rim west of Grandview Point, a park release said.

Park officials have notified his family that a body has been spotted below the rim. However, "due to the location and technical operation required to recover the body, the National Park Service will conduct the recovery mission first thing tomorrow morning. Once the body is recovered it will be turned over to the Coconino County Medical Examiner for positive identification," the park release said.

The National Park Service in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner is conducting an investigation into the incident.
