Work finally is under way to repair damage Hurricane Sandy inflicted on the National Park Service facilties at Ocracoke in Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Team Henry Enterprise, LLC, is repairing the Ocracoke pier and the docks in Silver Lake that were damaged by the 2012 hurricane. The work is expected to be completed by the end of May. The area will be temporarily closed during the construction of this project, which includes one floating dock, two fixed docks, the overnight mooring spaces, and the parking lot immediately adjacent to these facilities.

The work will include replacing the potable waterline and fixtures, upgrade and replacement of electrical pedestals, removal of wooden walkway and replacement with aluminum decking, installation of ladders and life-rings with brackets and new mooring cleats.

The Ocracoke Campground waterline replacement project is also in progress. The work is expected to be completed prior to opening day of the campground, April 18.
