Minot, North Dakota, Photographer Captures Winning Photo In Theodore Roosevelt National Park Contest

This gorgeous shot of Theodore Roosevelt National Park by Gary Anderson won Grand Prize in the park's second Annual “Picture Yourself in Theodore Roosevelt National Park” Photo Contest.

The shot by Mr. Anderson, of Minot, North Dakota won the Grand Prize with his scenic photo entitled, “Tranquility.” It will be featured on the park’s 2014 Annual Park Pass.

Jared Aicher of Eagle, Idaho, won second prize with “Little Missouri River;” third prize was awarded to Christina Laws from Winfield, Missouri, for “Sunset;” and “River Bend Overlook” by Mark Meyers from Santa Fe, New Mexico, was the fourth-place winner.

Prizes were donated by the Theodore Roosevelt Nature and History Association, the park’s non-profit cooperating association.

The park received 119 photo entries for this year’s contest. The top 12 photos will be featured in a 2014 color calendar, which is for sale at the visitor center through the Theodore Roosevelt Nature and History Association. The photos will also be on display in the park’s South Unit Visitor Center through December 24.

“Congratulations to Gary Anderson and the rest of the prize winners,” said Superintendent Valerie Naylor. “We would also like to thank everyone who participated in the photo contest. We sincerely appreciate Theodore Roosevelt Nature and History Association’s partnership in the contest and look forward to continuing the contest in the coming year.”

The 2014 Theodore Roosevelt National Park Annual Pass, which is good for one year from the month of purchase, will be on sale starting January 1. The cost is $20.
