A two-day planning session will be held early next month to discuss a national recreation trail along Lake Michigan that will involve paddling, hiking, and cycling.
The Lake Michigan Trail Conference is scheduled for November 8 and 9 at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts in Saugatuck, Michigan. The goal of the conference is to take a trimodal approach to planning integrated paddling and cycling routes around the Lake Michigan Circle Tour.
The conference’s ultimate goal is to share expertise, data and vision while providing a unified approach to water trail planning and implementation, building trails and bike routes and reconstituting the Circle Tour based on economic development and tourism connections.
Federal, State, Regional, County, and local recreation, tourism, and economic development professionals, trail users and trail groups interested in the creation of a sea kayak route around the shore of Lake Michigan, and the extension and completion of U.S. Bicycle Routes should plan on attending.
Registration is free and includes two lunches and conference materials (thanks to grant support from Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Coastal Zone Management Program).
