If you like it hot in canyon country, then there's a hot deal on the table for a room at Zion National Park during the high heat of summer.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts, which operates Zion Lodge, is offering a new package for arrivals from August 16 through September 3. Called Zion Plus, the package includes accommodations for two nights, a breakfast buffet for two people each morning, sack lunches for two people on one day, and a discount coupon of up to 20 percent off items purchased in the lodge gift shop.

The package is priced at $328.70 for two people in a standard lodge room and $356.70 for two people in a Western cabin, representing a discount of 15 percent off regular rates. The retail discount is 10 percent for purchases between $25 and $49 and 20 percent off purchase of $50 or more. The rate includes meal gratuities. Taxes are not included.

“Late summer is prime time for a visit to Zion because the weather is still sunny and warm, but there are slightly fewer visitors than the peak summer months,” says Becki Lewis, director of sales and marketing for Xanterra’s Utah operations, which include Zion Lodge and Bryce Canyon Lodge in Bryce Canyon National Park. "And 2009 is a particularly great time to visit because the park is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.”

Ms. Lewis said visitors can get a great deal of adventure mileage out of a two-night visit. “I like to tell family and friends to spend the first day exploring the visitor center and the viewpoints nearest to the lodge and spend the second day taking a big hike, such as the five-hour trail up to Angel’s Landing," she said. "There are also plenty of less strenuous activities too, such as visiting the Emerald Pools or experiencing the ever-present cool mist of the Weeping Wall."

The Zion Plus package, based on availability, can be booked online or by calling 1-303-29-PARKS (1-303-297-2757) or toll-free at 1-888-29-PARKS (1-888-297-2757). Callers should mention the promotional code “ZIONPLUS.” These special rates do not apply to groups or contracted rooms.
