Two weeks ago we suggested a new tradition, that of thanking national park rangers for their service every July 29. Well, today's the 29th, so thank a ranger if you see one today.
Rangers in the National Park System do big things, such as saving lives during search-and-rescue missions, and little things, such as offering directions, answering questions, and lending a helping hand when you most need it. They show up for interpretive programs, work late to provide insightful campfire programs, and spend days and at times weeks in the backcountry on patrol or conducting research.
And, of course, they're not the mostly highly paid of public employees. So show 'em a little love today. Extend a hand and a heart-felt thank you! They'll appreciate it.

Just want to pass on a note I got from the folks at RMNP...
Jeff's parents, and brother, are in RMNP and stopped by to visit RMNP staff. They held a small memorial for Jeff along with Chief Ranger Mark Magnuson and were shown all the cards that have come in for "Thank A Ranger Day". Jeff's parents were deeply touched and very thankful for you all that his memory is being kept alive through this day. In the words of the RMNP staff, "It means the world to all of us that you started and are continuing this tradition."
Thank you everyone for showing your support and appreciation towards "Thank A Ranger Day".
Some of our Rangers today recieved home made cookies from Sharon Funck and a Thank You too.
