Mount Rainier Flood Bill: $30 Million

Share

We're starting to see larger figures being attached to the damage associated with heavy storms that raked Olympic, Mount Rainier, Glacier, and North Cascades national parks earlier this month.
Over at Mount Rainier, the latest estimate is right around $30 million, an astounding amount for a single park. And since the National Park Service only has a relatively small fund of several million dollars to help individual parks when emergencies arise, Congress most likely will have to come up with some funds to help Mount Rainier recover.
I haven't seen any dollar amounts discussed from North Cascades, but that park has sustained fairly extensive washouts to roads and trails.
It will be interesting to see if Mary Bomar, having toured Mount Rainier, returns to Washington next week with a request for financial assistance.
