Earlier Springs Disrupting Ecosystems At Many National Parks, Study Finds

Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell on Thursday announced a new study showing that spring is beginning earlier than its historical average in 75 percent of the national parks examined — providing further evidence that climate change is already impacting public lands. The announcement came during a visit to Shenandoah National Park, one of the sites identified in the study as experiencing the impacts of an early onset of spring.

The National Register is the official list of the nation’s historic places worthy of preservation, and the National Mall nomination provides basic information about the physical appearance and the significance embodied in the 110 historic buildings, structures, and sites located within the district.

National Park Service Announces Visitor Services For 2016 National Cherry Blossom Festival

The National Park Service will offer a number of special programs and services during the 2016 National Cherry Blossom Festival, including festival-related lantern walks, ranger talks, and tours around the Tidal Basin and National Mall. National Park Service festival events will be held through April 3 and are free of charge.
