Native spring wildflowers and children’s creativity will be celebrated Saturday and Sunday during Shenandoah National Park's 31st annual Wildflower Weekend. Special hikes and programs will focus on the diversity and value of hundreds of species of flowering plants that are protected by the park located in Virginia.

Winds gusting to near 100 mph swept Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee on Thursday downed trees in many areas of the park and forced the closure of some facilities. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

A new communication tower is going up at the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, and while Verizon Wireless will have equipment on the tower, it has been designed not to bleed a cell signal into official wilderness in the park.

Though Death Valley is one of the driest places on Earth, water has been there, and is there. Water has shaped the landscape of the national park that cups the valley, and has helped create many of the valuable minerals found in the soils.
