Interior Officials Urged To End Use Of Lead Shot And Tackle In National Park System

The ongoing use of lead shot and fishing tackle in the National Park System is a threat to human health, the environment, and non-game wildlife and should be banned, the Interior Department's assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks has been told by the Coalition to Protect America's National Parks.

Study Contends Wolf Management Plans Are Skewed Towards Livestock Interests

Wolf management plans are faulty because the data they are based on is skewed, according to a study out this week. In researching livestock losses in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Wisconsin, the authors found that "the percent of livestock killed by wolves never exceeded 0.21 percent for sheep and 0.05 percent for cattle."

Devils Hole Pupfish Population Soars At Death Valley National Park

One of the most endangered fish species on the planet, one that calls a tiny water-filled canyon home, has undergone a population boom. National Park Service biologists recently surveyed the Devils Hole pupfish colony at Death Valley National Park, and counted 263 individuals, the greatest number recorded in 19 years.
