Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico will begin its free summer shuttle service to Frijoles Canyon on June 27. The shuttle, provided by Atomic City Transit, boards at the White Rock Visitor Center in nearby White Rock.
The shuttle is mandatory from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily except for those who meet one of the following exceptions:
- Has a disability placard displayed on their vehicle
- Are traveling with pets
- Conducting park-related business
- Organized commercial tour groups traveling in their own bus or van
- Are camping in Bandelier’s backcountry
The shuttle's first stop in the park is at the Frey Trailhead parking area. It then proceeds to the Bandelier Visitor Center in Frijoles Canyon. It stops at the Frey Trailhead parking area again on its way back to White Rock. It is approximately a 20-minute ride to and from Bandelier National Monument. The shuttles run every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 20 minutes on weekends.
“Summer is one of our busiest times of the year,” said Superintendent Patrick Suddath. “Since 2012, our partners at Atomic City Transit have provided this service to help alleviate traffic and parking congestion in Frijoles Canyon.”
Visitors will be able to drive into Frijoles Canyon if they arrive before 9 a.m. or after 3 p.m.
The park’s summer shuttle service is expected to end on October 16.
