An evacuation order was issued Friday afternoon for Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada, including the Waterton Townsite and Prince of Wales Hotel.

The Kenow Fire was spotted August 30 in the Kishinena Creek area of British Columbia’s Flathead Valley, but embers from the blaze have started spot fires on Sage Pass inside the park. By Thursday the blaze had covered nearly 10,000 acres in the park.

"All areas in Waterton Lakes National Park, including the Waterton Park townsite and all front-country and back-country trails, facilities and areas except for Highways 5 and 6 and the Chief Mountain border crossing" were ordered evacuated by Ifan Thomas, the field unit superintendent for Waterton Lakes National Park.
