Fatality on Bright Angel Trail at Grand Canyon National Park

Share

A 36-year-old hiker succumbed along the Bright Angel Trail in Grand Canyon National Park on Thursday, June 18. The hiker, a Japanese man, was on his way back up the trail in 110 degree heat. Hikers contacted park rangers to an area known as Devil's Corkscrew, where they found the man unresponsive. Members of his party had attempted to resuscitate him but reported that he had no pulse for 2 hours.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for the Grand Canyon Park, and hikers are asked to use caution when hiking in the canyon. The National Park Service is investigating the accident along with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
