There are quite a few parks associations out there, all with programs to enrich a visitor’s experience while explaining how important national parks and protected lands are. This particular quiz focuses on parks and other protected lands supported by the Western National Parks Association across 12 Western states. This year marks the 175th anniversary of Fort Scott, which was established in the Kansas Territory in 1842. In commemoration of this momentous occasion, Fort Scott National Historic Site is pulling out all the stops with frontier-era military reenactments on Saturday.

During 2011-2015, the Civil War will be commemorated with special events in dozens of Civil War-related national parks. This month's schedule includes highlighted events in four parks in four different states.
