NPS Developing Preservation Plan For Big Spring Historic District At Ozark National Scenic Riverways

The National Park Service has prepared a Cultural Landscape Report and Environmental Assessment to identify key landscape resources within the Big Spring State Park National Historic District at Ozark National Scenic Riverways. The Big Spring report and assessment provides recommendations for preservation and public enjoyment of the key landscape features, and will be available for public review and comment for 30 days, beginning January 16.

U.S. Mint To Launch Effigy Mounds Quarter For The America The Beautiful Quarters Program

The first quarter to be released in 2017 under the United States Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters Program will feature Iowa’s Effigy Mounds National Monument. The coin design showcases an aerial view of two bears and one bird effigy mound from the Marching Bear Group in the South Unit of the monument.

Officials Propose Grizzly Bear Recovery Plan For North Cascades National Park

More than six years after a hiker photographed what experts at the time said was a grizzly bear in North Cascades National Park in upstate Washington, the National Park Service is proposing to help the bruins repopulate the park via a recovery plan that seeks to establish a self-sustaining population of 200 grizzlies.

House Members Pushing To Permanently Delist Gray Wolves From Endangered Species List

Freshman U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney has introduced legislation to permanently remove the gray wolf from the Endangered Species List in both Wyoming and the Great Lakes region, saying the states can do a better job of managing the predator than the federal government.
