When John Muir traveled in 1879 to the landscape now embraced by Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve in Alaska, his great desire to see its bay and surrounding glaciers was confounded by overcast skies and rain with some snow mixed in. But when the weather took a change for the better, he was astounded by the view.

As much as we all enjoy visiting national parks for relaxation and to see amazing landscapes and wildlife, they also are a source for news: new species, flooding, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. And you should be able to follow that news, as you're an owner of the park system.

Yosemite National Park Working To Improve Access Via California 140

Yosemite National Park is launching a pilot program to address traffic congestion along California 140. The program will be tested on the Highway 140 corridor on Thursday, April 26, to Sunday, April 29, and on Thursday, May 3, to Sunday, May 6. This pilot is to test a new way to pace and send vehicles to the Arch Rock Entrance Station, improving visitor safety and access while enhancing the overall visitor experience on busy traffic days.

New Long-Distance Trail Could Be In The Offing For Hikers With Time On Their Hands

For hikers with an inordinate amount of time on their hands, good feet and extra boots, a trail stretching nearly 7,000 miles and meandering through 21 states might soon be ready for them. Put another way, you could walk through the woods and across the prairies from North Dakota to Georgia.
