Golden Gate National Recreation Area Proposes A Number Of Higher Fees

With more than 100 units of the National Park System that charge fees of some sort, keeping track of proposed fee increases is not easy. Among the latest is one from Golden Gate National Recreation Area, where officials are proposing higher fees or visiting Muir Woods and Alcatraz, along with higher parking fees for the NRA and the Presidio.

The Natchez Trace is one such trail, stretching 444 miles from Natchez, Mississippi, to Nashville, Tennessee.

Acadia National Park's Visitor Use Plan For Isle Au Haut Allows For Slight Increase In Daily Visitation

Visitors to Acadia National Park who want to escape the crowds might consider a trip to Isle au Haut, a relatively little-known piece of the park that occupies an island south of Mount Desert Island. Under a visitor use management plan adopted by the park, daily visitation to the island will be capped at 128, although the park will allow higher visitation on six days in July and August.

Around the National Park System there's talk of changing the name of Craters of the Moon National Monument, building a visitor center at Rim Village, and raising an ecological monitoring station at Yellowstone National Park.

Virgin Islands National Park Friends Group Concerned About Marina Proposed For Coral Bay

A marina proposed for Coral Bay at St. John in the Virgin Islands that could accommodate more than 200 vessels has drawn the concern of Friends of Virgin Islands National Park, which is worried the development will impair not only the marine resources but also the surrounding land that could be covered with shopping and dining businesses as well as waste-water treament facilities.
