Op-Ed | Coalition To Protect America’s National Parks Urges Improved Training On Ethics Standards

The Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks, the nonprofit organization that consists of over 1,600 members drawn from the ranks of former and current National Park Service employees, has weighed in on the ethics issues that are currently front and center for that agency. Specifically, the Coalition has called for the NPS to undertake far-reaching and detailed reforms to the system it uses to educate its own employees on how to work with donor and partner organizations to raise badly needed support for the nation’s national parks.

Highway 399 At Gulf Islands National Seashore Reopens Following Hurricane Repairs

Highway 399 (J. Earle Bowden Way) has reopened through Gulf Islands National Seashore in Florida. The road between Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach through the Santa Rosa area was closed in October ahead of Hurricane Michael making landfall on the Gulf Coast. The hurricane caused significant damage to the road.

The Hydrothermal System In Yellowstone Lake

The floor of Yellowstone Lake has hot springs, sinter deposits, altered muds, heat-loving bacteria, rocky siliceous spires, and hydrothermal explosion craters. These features have been the subject of intense study over the last 20 years, and research results show that the springs have an impact on the chemistry of the lake itself.
